The Western Continent.

I'm not to put too fine a line on any map, but draw a line along the eastern border of Montana and you put as neat a boundary on what I consider to be the 'western continent' as I can figure. Just make sure that line goes all the way to the northern Arctic and all the way south to Mexico. After all, you don't want to miss any opportunity to ride.

I don't mean to infer that there isn't anything interesting outside the above 'rough' boundary to see, however this is what I call 'home'... pretty lucky I'd say. The continental divide, more mountain twisties than you can count, parks, beaches, wild space... some days it's hard to pick a direction that doesn't have something new and spectacular to offer. I hardly look at maps (maybe it's a guy thing...) but I suppose that with so many things to enjoy I was raised on the theory of 'just get out there; you'll enjoy yourself'. It's been a long journey to start documenting the travels, but here is my attempt to provide some information on my little corner of paradise.

Some quick stats

  Area Populationapprox
British Columbia 944,735 sq km (364,764 sq mi) 4,449,300
Alberta 661,848 sq km (255,541 sq mi) 3,398695
Washinton State 184,673.92 sq km (71,303 square miles) 6,549224
Oregon State 254 818.570 22 sq km (98,386 square miles) 3,790,060
California State 423,999.18 sq km (163,707 square miles) 36,756,666

To put this in some perspective: British Columbia is larger than Washington, Oregon and California all combined and yet contains only 10% of the population in those states. What a great place to explore! On the other hand: What a great opportunity to enjoy the sights of the states and the increadible infrastructure that the states have been able to develop.
It's the best of both worlds!

There is so much country to cover that I often wonder how I will cover it all in my lifetime. And yet it's a challenge I will always look forward to each riding season.
Whether you prefer main highways, backroads or the lonely by-way; I hope I can provide some insight into the area and encourage you to explore as well. On the right side of the page you will find a growing list of routes and information as I digitalize my trips, information from other riders and photos as well. In addition, you will find a good seasoning of my own opinions and (soon, I hope) to include your feedback as well. Best of luck to all!
